I got to say

the only thing to have brought on ‘that christmas feel’ in years is the background sounds loop on the new Angry Birds Seasons, that people can play for free by using google chrome. The combo of wind-whipping, sleigh bells, harp and other glassy tinkles is just right. Angry Birds is a Finnish creation and real christmas sits best in that almost no sun time of year and that part of the world.

_Clearly_ Gordon Brown’s nose is about to fall off

This is quite “clever”.

And, I don’t know about you, but on the news or on the innernet I’m seeing/hearing people use ‘clearly’ a lot more.

It’s a couple of days til christmas and I’m stuck here in christmasless korea still. This seems to happen every two or three years. They want me to keep workin so now my poor old mum is having a 25th with no spawn. Last time I was stuck here like this I posted this picture. It always makes me feel christmassy.

Last week here was very cold. Then it snowed on the weekend. Just a little mind you, nothing like what they’re getting in Europe and n.america. Ungrateful sods. The first ten minutes of the news was full of rich privileged whiteys pissed that they weren’t gonna make it home for christmas, and the last three minutes was about Romanian orphans who are living in gangrenous squalor with a bunch of mental and physical sicknesses due to neglect.

I’ve been playin guitar with an older woman in the building. Last night we learnt Dead Flowers by the stones. Good song.

Santa, You & Me

I was hoping that when I finished studying I would get this flood of urge to get back into bloggin again but it hasn’t happened. I have remained busy to an extent, and enjoying moments of chillin’ when I can get em.

I signed a deal which is going to have me heading out of the city next year—a welcome change, I TELL YOU.

My friend Jim left the country yesterday. Before he did, he gave me this cd of music he’d made. I’d always known he made kid’s music but I was blown away by how good this cd was. I expect you’ll be hearing more about him soon. Until then, here’s the first song, a seasonally themed ditty, Christmas Boogie (Christmas Boogie now removed: 7/4/11). I hope he doesn’t mind me posting it. I didn’t get time to ask.

I’m off back to Australia (HOJU) for a couple of weeks come sunday. Looking forward to the mild suddy weather and the big supermarkets filled with all those goodies. Looking forward to seeing friends and quiet streets, clean air, and eavesdropping on conversations.

I modified my Danelectro Danoblaster! Now officially known as Moonblaster. I changed the pickups in it. Here’s a picture:

modified Danoblaster.

In the bridge is a Seymour Duncan Lil’ Screamin’ Demon single-coil sized humbucker. In the middle is a Lace Holy Grail and the neck has a Lace Sensor Purple in it. I ordered them about six weeks ago but due to shenannigans of one of these online parts sellers, I didn’t get them until yesterday. Man, I even dreamed about these pickups in the post-order ensuing wait.

I’ve never done any soldering before but I had a go last night. For a while I didn’t think I was going to be able to do it—too many fiddly wires. Then I did it, and it seemed to be successful. I’d started thinking there’s nothing to this soldering business—it’s like the metal version of blutac. But then today I was playing the moonblaster and the middle and neck sound suspiciously similar, as in I think there’s something wrong with the wiring. Got no time to mess about in there again now, but in any case the screamin demon pickup is in there properly and I can say that that one sounds good. Chunkeh!

direct from a shallow grave

Hi there, It’s YS, you might remember me from such blogs as sunny breaks in years previous.
I am alive, though barely at present. I had a cold then it got better, then I had a cold & flu, then it got better. This about sums up my life for the last month.

Also, I got the job I wanted. That job being: any one other than the one I have now. Things have not been so happy-go-lucky at the establishment, but thankfully it’s almost done.

There have been fun moments, such as yesterday while on the subway a guy who looked exactly like a suit was acting all gregarious and dapper; putting on a silent comedy for whoever would watch.
Also, it hasn’t been as cold as it could be, so that’s good.
It is christmas eve and I am not in the sox ancestral lands, which is a first for me.

And so here are some of my favourite christmas things. – Dylan Thomas’ short story, ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’, which is also linked on the side. DT is my fave poet and a brilliant reader of his own work.
This christmas image, brought to you by mister pants. i printed out a couple of these and gave them to people I know.
– This page of European christmas traditions. I always wanted to do an australian version of this but it still hasn’t happened.
– Last year I found this page that had a bunch of nice pictures on it and it said these pictures are copyright, don’t copy them. So I took them down to the photo joint and had them glossy-fied. I made cards. I like this one because of how piercing the eyes of the dude next to santa are.
