Message reads: HAPPY DAY HAPPY YOU!

Whenever I hear ‘Warm Leatherette’ by The Normal it makes me think of the death of Princess Di and I don’t half wonder if The Normal were time travellers.

We’ve been watching a lot of Mayday or Air Crash Investigation or whatever it’s called. It’s one of those not-so-heavy doco series and it’s about planes crashing. Most of season one is on youtube but I ended up downloading the first five seasons. And as soon as we started watching the full versions of episodes there’s all this swearing included. They do these recreations of what happened in the cockpit. If the conversation gets to “… Can you see it? I can’t fucken see it… I tell you this controller… ” then crashing is not far off.

In in utero baby news, baby moving limbs around in there does look a heck of a lot like Sigourney Weaver’s nightmare from _Aliens_ and Elvis’ version of Blue Moon from the Sun Sessions album gets him moving. I prefer Mystery Train but whatever.

The last 9 months or so I’ve been riding my bike the 15-20mins to work. Being able to do this is one of the nice things when comparing working here to when I was in Korea. It’s just the right speed – fast compared to walking but slow enough that I can have a good look around while moving.

Sadly it will be coming to an end in a month or so as I am taking up another job which will require me to drive a car on the freeway and into the bleak outer-west of Melbourne. At least it will give me a chance to listen to music regularly again.

Music:

That’s right I am so off the track that I am finding out things from the canned radio in the supermarket now. The Harlem Shuffle, from The Stones’ fallow period was actually originally done by a couple of chaps called

Also, the jukebox in my head randomly threw on Poison Ivy so I looked that up and _that_ was originally done by The Coasters who also did this great song Smokey Joe’s Cafe (starts at 5:41 secs).

Lastly, partly because they’re local and also because it rocks, First And Last Men by ORB.

politics

I have been meaning to say for several months now that american politics is way more interesting than australian politics at the moment. Yes we have an election but the choice we have here is a. a crafty moderate conservative who knows how to play cards and a guy that has less charisma than two planks of wood. I watched part of the televised debate last weekend and it reminded me of *Kang & Kodos*.

The presidential nominations are interesting but also sadly doomed. Parliamentary politics usually only attracts the power-addicted and the corrupt. But the guy running for the democrat nomination, Bernie Sanders seems to be a genuine, honest person. I can’t say I’ve ever really seen this kind of person in politics before. And he’s actually been in the Congress for decades.

Sarah Silverman explains it much better than me:

Unfortunately the nomination process is undemocratic and corrupt so it doesn’t look like he’ll make it.
