hepped up

April 5th, 2003

Maybe it’s just the choc-chip hot X buns and the sugary indiepop (machine translations) talking, but I feel good.
Also listening to Underworld – their live album; ‘Everything, Everything’. The housey/trancey/whatever you want to call it edge of electronic music isn’t usually my cup of tea, but this album is rather listenable. I find there’s a tendency to use a lot of overused sounds in house/trance — but underworld don’t have that problem. Good to get into a certain mindframe to and work on something to. Very English sounding in an odd way, may be the connection of the track ‘Born Slippy’ to Trainspotting.

Core did a little bit about GeoUrls and I see that these two fellows were already on it.
Dang. I accidenatlly stuffed it up. Will have to wait til it updates before it places me properly. Right now it says i live at the GPO.

my portfolio is always empty

April 3rd, 2003

I noticed this thing posted by messrs Newbie et al. over at TDY. I seem to be a bit late on the scene because it’s everywhere now. Kinda reminds me of wearing a bubble-wrap hat, requisitioning the money from the Monoploy set and playing shopkeepers. The inside word on Spouting is sell! sell! sell! – it’s gonna tank anyday now.

I see Robodex is on. That’d be fun.

That blogshare thing is a novel idea.

I wonder how big it’ll get? At a couple of thousand members – it’s already pretty big

Dunno. I couldn’t bring myself to putting their .GIF on here in order to get into it and check it out further. I’m having ‘corporate slave’ knee-jerks about it all.

Gnumeric saves the day

April 2nd, 2003

I can write any sort of clap-trap — technical, abstract blah-blah what ever. It just comes out at different speeds depending on how native it is. Mathmatics has always been the downfall. From that day in grade two when I got another kid to do my times tables homework (a whole page of 9×6 etc.) I haven’t really looked back. It’s not like I was one of those big kids who had no problem coercing others to do things for me either. Due to where my birthday falls I was almost always the youngest in each year level at whatever school I was dropped into. i just really really didn’t like times tables and so was motivated thus. But there were consequences: I got found out, I got in trouble, teacher wrote “Lazybones” on my homework sheet.

Other people I’ve known of a similar ilk at least followed vegge-maths through to the end, thinking it’d be some benefit. I gave up and got out as soon as I could. And of the many things I’ve had to or have changed my attitude about, maths hasn’t been one of them.
Today, it’s biting me on the arse (ass, airse) – in statistics form. I supposedly learned this crap last year but already it makes no sense again. Thank gooh-ness for the GNU spreadsheet thingie! I tried using the Open Office equivalent, but how to work it was not immediately obvious so I dumped it. Gnumeric got me the stuff I needed when I was minutes away from spinning out completely, running down the street to the car park to hijack the bottleshop’s forklift and playing ‘Stack the cars on top of eachother’ until someone came to get me.
So in memory of that childhood SNAFU, I’m renaming Gnumeric Neil M. Let’s hope it doesn’t steal my sizable collection of footy swapcards a couple of months down the track.

tappa-tappa-tappa

April 1st, 2003

It’s not that I don’t have time to stick anything here at the moment – it’s just that the day is full up with tapping away at the studies and little else. I wish that when i said I’ve been doing psy cog it meant that I’d been learning far out things like telekinesis instead of writing dippy reports about memory.

Am a bit tired of these ‘creepy uncle’ style propaganda photos in the press of soldiers with little girls.

Just watched a really wacky french doco about the possible faking of the apollo moon landing. I don’t know if they were saying it was or not. And then at the end they did bloopers! Bloopers aren’t exactly the type of thing that inspires credibility. Particularly when they include freaks like that Rumsfeld.
